ISLE OF SHEPPEY ARCHIVE

AUTISM

ARCHIVE

BRIEF //

Autism affects peoples social competence. It also affects peoples perception of geometry, serving as an asset when negotiation space and complex shapes both on a large and small scale.

At a young age children are left at a disadvantage being less socially capable than their peers. Being in an obsessive habitual mindset leaves them introverted. The Autism Archive located in Leysdozn, on the Isle of Sheppey, affords children aged 4_7 the opportunity to relinquish some on their social anxiety and replaces it with creativity and problem solving skills. The centre would create and environment that gives the children a role of responsibility by asking them to create objects of personal meaning and then allow them to let that go. Hopefully this will be facilitated by the comfort zone the building creates.

The Archive, however is for the parents. It's a therapeutic place where they share their thoughts in diaries, and over the 4 week programme are able to watch their children build, socialise and let go. These diaries will also be archived alongside the models that the children create, to then be revisited qt q later date.
